Cotton, Polyester and Blended Knits: A Sourcing Guide for Apparel Brands
Choosing a fibre composition is one part of developing a knitted garment. For a new style or replenishment order, review composition together with construction, fabric weight, finishing and the approved garment sample. Yuanchun reviews the requirements in your tech pack before confirming materials and production.
Compare actual fabrics, not fibre names alone
Cotton, polyester and blends can each be used in knitted apparel. The finished result depends on yarn, knit structure and processing as well as fibre content. Compare swatches for hand feel, opacity, stretch and recovery, then check garment samples for the intended fit and use. Do not assume two fabrics with the same composition will perform identically.
Agree the tests and acceptance criteria
State your required shrinkage, colourfastness, pilling and measurement tolerances. Agree a test method, conditions and acceptance criteria rather than relying on a generic shrinkage percentage. Ask which tests and evidence are available for the specific fabric and order. Sustainability or certification requirements need documentation reviewed for their scope and validity before quotation.
Review decoration with the selected fabric
Send print or embroidery artwork, placement dimensions and colours. Review suitability and appearance on the selected material during sampling. A decoration process that worked on a previous garment should be assessed again if composition, finish or construction changes.
Keep repeat orders traceable
For replenishment, provide the previous style number, approved fabric specification, colour reference and sample record. Review current material availability, shade matching and timing before confirming the next order. If a substitute is proposed, approve its sample and tests before bulk production.

Include garment type, composition preference, knit structure, target GSM, finish, measurement chart, artwork and quantity by style.
